As part of our Ancient Egyptian topic, year 3 have been busy making our very own Shabti dolls. We designed the dolls in our sketch books and then moulded them carefully using clay. Once they were dry, we painted them carefully to ensure the markings were not spoiled. A shabti is a mummiform figurine of about 5 - 30 centimetres found in many ancient Egyptian tombs. People had these dolls in their tombs as they were believed to answer their master’s call to work in the afterlife. They were a form of protection!
