The Diamonds hub is a specialist provision for children who have autism and have struggled in a mainstream setting. These children come from schools across Bolton and some will be brought in by transport each day. The provision recently opened in September 2021 due to the local authority identifying a need for an alternative provision where children who are academically able to access the National Curriculum could be educated in a small class, with high adult to child ratios. The focus is on specific strategies and routines that are proven to help those with autism. The Diamonds hub will have space for 8 pupils. The SEN (Special Educational Needs) team at the local authority have control over allocating places and children who attend Moorgate Primary School do not have any priority over others in gaining a place.
As an inclusive team we see the Diamonds hub as integral to our work as a school and endeavour to provide opportunities to integrate these children into our mainstream school if appropriate. Our mission statement says that ‘we have a safe, trusting, enabling and stimulating environment. We promote a sense of purposeful citizenship with shared values and respect for diversity and equality. We believe in enabling independence and resilience for all our children; motivating them to aspire to and achieve their full potential in an inclusive and valued community. We believe in preparing pupils for the future, ensuring that they have the life skills to make a positive contribution to the British society and the Global community in which they live and develop a strong foundation for personal health and well-being.’
